Penelope Bartlau

Training: Penelope studied Commedia dell’Arte and the History of Latin Comedy in Italy, with Antonio Fava at his school for comic actors (’93), and then relocated to New York where she trained in method acting at the Lee Strasberg Institute(’94). More recently Penelope was studying “Professional screenwriting” at RMIT.


Acting credits include; Blue Heelers, Scooter, Neighbours, MDA, Something in the Air, Video Underground, Transmission (pilot episode), Seachange (television); Josh Jarman, Guru Wayne (features); A Thousand Reasons Why, Super Mum, The Staring Girl, The Spider & the Fly, I Want Love, Nuts, Seven days Under Mavis (short films); Cunversations, After the Rain, The Eight, Flush, Caresses, Staff, Man -40- Seeks Woman with Good Legs, Total Entertainment, Wide Brown Land, War Against Short Trousers, Three Musketeers, Ripe, Still, Open for Inspection, Women In Love (theatre) and many ABC radio dramas.Currently working on a role in Academy (feature).


Writing credits include: Flush –a dadaist cabaret (theatre), Macca Strewth, (animation) shown at over 30 international film festivals and won awards including the Nescafe Short Film Awards “Best Original Screenplay” and “Best Comedy Screenplay” at Flickerfest. Nuts, a short film which won the Public’s Choice Prize at “Quick Flicks”. Penelope wrote and performed bilingual shows for primary and secondary school children for Broccoli Education, a multicultural children’s theatre company. Looking for a sugar daddy or mommy to produce her current play Gardenhead. Any interested parties please apply.


Producing Credits include: Working with Vicious Fish Theatre, co-producing a series of four plays: Caresses, After the Rain, Fourplay and Blood by Catalan playwright, Sergi Belbel. (Work to be completed in 2006). Penelope also produced Flush which was a recipient of the Artists Support Initiative from Theatreworks (2004).


Other Stuff: Penelope is an auctioneer (art & antiques), does lots of voice-overs and has fabulous dinner parties. Become her friend and get invited to one. Highly recommended. Penelope has produced, directed, written and performed in theatre, film and animation, both in Australia and overseas Penelope is the Artist’s Registry Manager for Screenplay (ACMI).
